World Hepatitis Day – Awareness Programme
The Department of Microbiology, School of Arts and Science, PRIST Deemed to be University, organized a World Hepatitis Day – Awareness Programme on 28 July 2026. The programme focused on creating awareness about viral hepatitis, its transmission, prevention, vaccination, early diagnosis and liver health.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. T. Veeramani, highlighting the importance of hepatitis awareness and preventive healthcare. Students A. Abinayaa and Susmitha of II B.Sc. Microbiology delivered informative presentations on the types of hepatitis viruses, transmission, symptoms, prevention, vaccination and healthy liver practices.
Ms. Sandiya, II B.Sc. Biochemistry, highlighted the role of biochemical investigations, liver function tests and early diagnosis in the management and prevention of serious liver complications. An interactive discussion followed, with students actively sharing their views and asking questions.
A total of 39 students participated enthusiastically in the programme. The event successfully enhanced students’ knowledge of viral hepatitis and encouraged them to adopt healthy lifestyles and promote health awareness in society.
Outcome
The programme created greater awareness among students about hepatitis prevention and liver health, encouraged healthy lifestyle practices and strengthened students’ understanding of the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare.
