On March 8th, 2025, PRIST University received approval for a project called “Protection and Restoration of Blue Carbon Ecosystems at Selected Zones at the South-East Coastal Belt of India,” which is part of the Twinning Research and was approved by the Bay of Bengal Programme, an intergovernmental organization, with Prof. Dr. Ashutosh Das as the main investigator. The research has successfully partnered and collaborated with VNR VJIET, Hyderabad, Telangana, India, and the University of Ruhuna Matara, Sri Lanka, along with the assistance of partner research institute The Open University of Sri Lanka, Nawala. These collaborations aim to enhance the understanding and management of blue carbon ecosystems, which play a crucial role in carbon sequestration and coastal protection. By integrating local knowledge and scientific research, the project seeks to develop sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and local communities. The project aims to raise awareness about the importance of blue carbon habitats and promote their sustainable use for future generations.
