INDUSTRIAL VISIT:

On March 5, 2024, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized an industrial visit to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) for its students. During this visit, attendees were introduced to the vital importance of nuclear power plants and their essential safety features. A compelling short film lasting approximately 20 minutes heightened the students’ enthusiasm for the site visit.

Mr. Ashokan , a scientific counselor who has extensive experience with the National Power Corporation of India Limited at various atomic power stations, provided valuable insights through a brief lecture. His discussion covered conventional electrical power generation methods, including hydel power projects, thermal power projects, wind energy projects, and solar power projects. He highlighted the advantages of nuclear energy, emphasizing its superiority, cost-effectiveness, and safety compared to traditional energy sources.

Due to safety and logistical considerations, the number of visitors was limited to 50 by KKNPP, ensuring an intimate and informative experience for all participants. The visit aimed to enrich students’ understanding of nuclear energy and its role in the future of power generation in India.
