Social Service Activities by the Management
- A deep borewell (Rs. 2 lakhs) is erected at Soorakottai Village.
- 1000 poor students are given free dress during every Deepavali.
- Govt.High School at Melaullur is adopted for development.
- School of Life Sciences and School of Computer Science of PRC regularly carryout community development activities.

Cultural
Inter-Collegiate Cultural Show/Competition is annually held by the Tamil Department of PRC to bring out the inborn talents of the students. It is a great show. To develop communication skills, Departments of English and Tamil Department jointly organise oratorical competitions. |

N.S.S. Activities
NSS-National Social Service (at PRC) is 6 years old. Their activities are appreciated by the University. We encourage the participation of NSS volunteers of PRC for university sponsored projects. |
- During the academic year 2000-2001 Women Empowerment Year "National Integration Camp" was conducted. From 14 states, 400 N.S.S. girl volunteers participated.
- During the last academic year 2003-2004, 50 N.S.S. Volunteers participated in "Kumbakonam Mahamagam Festival."
- In 2004-2005 an "Eye Camp and Eye Awareness Camp" was conducted, out of which 3000 members were benefited.

- Jaycees - Junior Chamber - has been active in the institution for the last two years.
- Rotaract Club (of Rotary International) was inaugurated last year and is being guided for undertaking voluntary services by the local Rotary Clubs.

Career Guidance Cell
- Various seminars conducted on topics like Personality Development, Employment Opportunities, How to Prepare for UGC/ CSIR exams and Need to develop entrepreneurial skills by eminent scholars.
- Conducted one-day workshop on 'Self Discovery' headed by Dr.A. Shanmugam.
- Arranged Campus Interview to the students. The companies visited are Mofai Consultancy, Chennai, PlanMan Consultancy, Chennai. Four of our students got selected.
- Issued books to interested students for the preparation of competitive exams.

Health Center, Vallam
- To monitor and maintain the optimum health of the students community and staff
- To provide basic First-Aid in cases of emergency and regular treatment for minor ailments.
- Health Education through Guest Lectures and health related activities.
- Periodical Medical Checkup. A Health Card has been formulated for this purpose.

Health Related Activities of 2004
- June 21st and 22nd : A total of 576 students and 50 staff members were examined for blood grouping with the active support of the Bio-chemistry staff of PR College.
- 28th July : A Blood donation camp was conducted with the active collaboration of Thanjavur Medical College under the banner of Blood Donors Club PREC. A total of 73 units of blood was collected from the students.
A Guest lecture to motivate the students to donate blood was given by Dr. Narendran, M.S., an eminent surgeon.
- 5th November : Breast Cancer Awareness Programme was conducted for the female staff and students. Dr. (Mrs.) Kavitha Senthil a Gynaecologist, highlighted the causes, detection and preventive aspects of breast cancer.
- 4th December : A lecture "Striving For Independence" to motivate the First Year students to face life's problems and difficulties was delivered by Dr.Thiyagarajan, a Psychiatrist of repute.
- Periodical Medical Checkup : Conducted for the II, III and Final Year Students of PREC, PRICH & PRIM.

Training Placement
In the context of quality and excellence, Training and placement department is a value addition of PRIST. With a view to improve the "Employement Skills" of students, Training & Placement department has evolved a programme, tailored to cater to the individual needs and potential of each student for the full length of the course. Ultimately this department envisages preparing even first generation students of rural background to meet the requirement of the job market. |

Self-assigned duties/responsiblities at PRIST
- DISCIPLINE QUALITY - highest priority at PRIST
- Compulsary weekly tests and Progress Report to parents/guardians twice in each semester
- Unauthorized absence from classes discouraged, Permission for absence from tests disallowed.
- SFS (Students Followup System) - a cardex system for each student - maintained by the faculty - records academic progress and records the visits of parents/guardian for counselling.
- Yearly parent-teacher meeting.

Expected responsiblity from parents/guardians
- Strictly warn students on the above and do regular checks.
- Keep track of test dates and ensure their wards attend these tests.
- Ensure reports are received directly by them.
- Do not authorise students to abstain from classes (except under extreme contingencies) and avoid authorizing the students for absence from tests and examinations.
- Ensure to see the SFS whenever they visit the college faculty.
- Make it a point to attend parent-teacher meetings.
